In the spiritual teachings of Dr. Bula Moyo, Hoodoo is not a "closed" system—it is a "living" one. Just as the ancestors combined African roots with Native American herbs and European psalms, the modern Rootworker can use other disciplines to "fine-tune" their divination. When you integrate practices, you aren't diluting the work; you are adding depth and precision.

In Hoodoo, we know what to do, but Astrology tells us when to do it.
The "Star-Gazer" Divination: Before throwing the bones, check the current Moon phase.
Example: If you are reading for a "Banishing," and the Moon is Waning, your reading will focus on how to let go. If the Moon is Waxing, the reading will show what needs to grow in the space left behind.
The Planetary Correspondences: Many Rootworkers use the "Seven African Powers" or specific Saints that correspond to planets (e.g., Saint Michael/The Sun for success).
Numbers are the "Skeleton" of the universe. Integrating Numerology into your Hoodoo reading adds a layer of "Timing and Volume."
The Count: When you pull playing cards, pay attention to the Sum of the numbers.
Example: If your cards add up to 5, the spirits are warning of a sudden change or instability. If they add up to 8, the situation is stable but requires hard work.
Mojo Bag Numerology: A Rootworker may place an odd number of items (3, 7, or 9) in a mojo bag based on the "Life Path Number" of the client revealed during divination.
Hoodoo has a long, deep history with the Bible. This is often called "Christian Conjure," but the technique can be applied to any sacred text (the Qur'an, the Torah, the Vedas).
The Scriptural Anchor: After a reading, a practitioner will often identify a specific Psalm or prayer that "locks" the positive result or "washes" the negative one.
The Divine Witness: Many workers will keep a statue of a Saint, an Orisha, or a Deity on their divination table to act as the "High Judge" of the information received.
| System | Integration Method | Best For... |
| Astrology | Moon Phases & Planetary Hours | Finding the "Perfect Moment" for a spell. |
| Numerology | Calculating Name & Birth Dates | Understanding the client's "Inner Character." |
| Tarot | Combining with Playing Cards | Adding "Archetypal Depth" to practical questions. |
| Crystals | Placing stones on the reading mat | Amplifying the "Clarity" of the messages. |
| Ancestral Altar | Giving offerings before reading | Ensuring the "Phone Line" is loud and clear. |
Always start with the Hoodoo foundation. Prepare your space with water and a candle, and call your ancestors. Once the "Hoodoo Engine" is running, you can then bring in the "High Tech" of Astrology or Numerology to sharpen the details.
Don't mix systems that contradict each other. If your Astrology says "Wait" but your Hoodoo bones say "Act Now," sit in silence and ask your ancestors which one is the priority. Usually, the Bones (Ancestors) take precedence over the Stars.
If you use a tool from another system (like a Tarot deck or a Pendulum), you must "Hoodoo it Up." Wash it in Florida Water, smoke it with Tobacco, and treat it like a Conjure tool, not just a store-bought accessory.
"I tell my students: Spirit doesn't care about the 'Label' of your practice; Spirit cares about the Power. If Astrology helps you see the 'Wind,' and Hoodoo helps you plant the 'Seed,' then use both! The ancestors were geniuses of adaptation. They used whatever worked to keep the family safe. Your job is to be just as flexible and just as powerful."
A: Only if you are disorganized. Keep a Divination Journal. Note what the cards said and what the stars said. Over time, you will see how they harmonize into one single, powerful truth.
A: Yes. Many modern Rootworkers use Reiki to "charge" their mojo bags or use Sound Healing (Singing Bowls) to clear their divination space. Hoodoo is the "Bone," and New Age can be the "Skin"—together they make a whole body.
