In Hoodoo, we don't look at tools in isolation. A single card or a single bone doesn't tell the whole story. The truth is found in the Proximity (how close they are), the Orientation (which way they face), and the Energy (how they feel).

When you throw the bones, you are looking at a "snapshot" of the client's life.
The Center: The objects that land in the center represent the "Now" or the heart of the problem.
The Perimeter: Objects on the edge represent influences that are leaving or coming in from the "outside."
Clusters: If the "Money Coin" is touching the "Enemy Bone," someone is trying to steal or block your finances. If the "Love Shell" is far away from the "Self Bone," the client is feeling lonely or disconnected.
In Hoodoo Cartomancy, we read in Combinations.
The "Power" of Three: We often pull cards in threes.
Example: Ace of Hearts + 10 of Diamonds + King of Clubs = A new love (Ace) bringing financial stability (10) through a professional man (King).
The "Warning" Cards: Multiple Spades in a row always mean "Stop." They indicate that the road is closed or that "The Law" (police/courts) is involved.
When performing Ceromancy (reading wax), the ancestors use shapes to sign their messages.
The "Mountain": A tall buildup of wax on one side means an obstacle you must climb.
The "Clover": A flower-like shape means good luck and a "Yes" to your prayer.
The "Hole": If the wax forms a hollow circle, it represents a "drain"—money or energy is leaking out of your life.
In the spiritual teachings of Dr. Bula Moyo, the most important tool is your Discernment. * The "Cold" Result: If a reading looks good on paper but you feel a "chill" or a "tightness" in your chest, the spirits are telling you that there is a hidden lie.
The "Sweet" Result: If the reading looks difficult but you feel a sense of peace, it means the challenge is a "cleansing fire" that will lead to a better future.
| Symbol | Traditional Meaning | Relationship Context |
| The Key | An opening; a secret revealed. | A new partner; finding the truth. |
| The Anchor | Stability; being stuck. | Long-term commitment; a heavy ex. |
| The Knife | Severing; surgery; conflict. | A breakup; cutting out a rival. |
| The Bird | Messages; gossip; travel. | A phone call; news of a lover. |
| The Coffin | An end; a deep secret; rest. | The death of a relationship; a hidden past. |
Every reading has one tool or card that is the "Loudest." Find the one that catches your eye first—that is the main theme of the spirit’s message.
Is there something standing between the "Client Piece" and the "Goal Piece"? If a piece of wood or a "Black Card" is in the way, you must identify what that obstacle is before the goal can be reached.
Sometimes a piece will land "off the mat" or a card will flip over on its own. Never ignore this. This is an ancestor "interrupting" the reading to give an urgent message that is outside the original question.
"I tell my students: Don't just read the book; read the Soul. If the 'Death' card comes up, it rarely means a physical funeral. It usually means a 'Death of the Ego' or the end of a cycle. Your job as a diviner is to translate the spirit's 'Old Language' into the client's 'Current Life.' Always ask: What is the spirit really trying to say?"
A: This usually means the question was too vague. If you ask "Will I be happy?", the spirits have too many ways to answer. Ask "Will this specific job offer bring me peace?", and the answer will be clear.
A: In Hoodoo, divination is not "Fate." It is a Weather Report. If the reading says "Rain is coming," the Hoodoo worker doesn't just sit there—they go get an umbrella (perform a protection spell).
The signs are all around you. Are you ready to stop guessing and start knowing?
