In the spiritual teachings of Dr. Bula Moyo, a divination ritual is a "Spiritual Interview." You are not just looking at tools; you are hosting a meeting with the Unseen. For the most accurate and powerful results, these three rituals are the "Gold Standard" of the Hoodoo tradition.

The Crossroads (the place where two roads meet) is the most powerful location in Hoodoo. It is the realm of the "Man of the Crossroads," the spirit who opens the gate to all other spirits.
The Ritual: At midnight or dawn, the practitioner goes to a physical crossroads (or creates a symbolic one on their altar using two crossed sticks).
The Action: They "pay" the spirit with three copper coins and a bit of tobacco. They then throw their bones or cards directly onto the center of the cross.
The Use: This is used when you are at a "Crossroads" in your own life—should I move? Should I quit my job? Should I get married? The answer here is absolute and final.
This is an ancient "High-Heat" ritual used to identify hidden enemies or see into the far future.
The Ritual: A small, controlled fire is built in a cast-iron pot or a fire-safe bowl using Hickory or Oak wood (traditional Southern woods).
The Action: The practitioner throws Salt and Frankincense into the flames. As the smoke rises, they look through the heat-haze into a mirror placed behind the fire.
The Use: To "burn away" the lies someone is telling you. This ritual "forces" the truth to the surface. If you see a face in the smoke or the mirror, that is the person you must watch.
This is a ritual of Patience and Observation, used for ongoing situations like a legal battle or a slow-moving romance.
The Ritual: A "fixed" glass candle (usually a 7-day jar candle) is prepared with oils and herbs relevant to the question.
The Action: The candle is lit on an altar surrounded by the client's petition and a circle of salt. The practitioner visits the candle every day at the same time to read the "Signs."
Day 1-3: Is the flame high? (Success is coming).
Day 4-6: Is there black soot? (Opposition is present).
Day 7: How does the glass look at the end? (Clear glass means a "Clean Victory").
| Element | Purpose | Hoodoo Significance |
| The Circle | Protection | Keeps the "Sight" contained and safe from wandering spirits. |
| The Libation | Payment | Water or coffee poured for the ancestors to "wet their throats" before they speak. |
| The Direction | Orientation | Facing East for new beginnings; West for endings/banishing. |
| The Breath | Animation | Blowing on the tools to "wake them up" with your living essence. |
After a major ritual, do not speak to anyone for at least 30 minutes. Let the "download" of information settle into your spirit. If you talk too soon, you "leak" the power of the vision.
Always keep a jar of clear water on your altar during these rituals. If the water becomes cloudy or has bubbles by the end, it means the spirits "filtered" a negative energy that was trying to block your answer.
The answer doesn't always come during the ritual. Sometimes the ritual is the "Seed," and the "Fruit" (the answer) appears the next day as a phone call, a sign on the street, or a vivid dream.
"I tell my students: A ritual is a Sacred Demand. You aren't asking the spirits 'if they have time' to talk; you are calling them to the table with honor and payment. When you perform a detailed ritual, you are showing the spirits that you are serious. In return, they give you the 'Deep Truth'—the kind of information that changes the course of a life."
A: If you can, yes. The "Spirit of the Land" is stronger at a physical crossroads. However, if you are in a city or need privacy, you can "Construct a Crossroads" on your floor using two lines of flour or cornmeal.
A: This is a strong "No." It means the spirits are not ready to reveal the answer, or that there is a "Heavy Blockage" that must be cleared with an Uncrossing Ritual before you can ask again.
The spirits are ready to meet you. Are you ready to perform the rites that unlock the secrets of the world?
